One of the key things that we offer is flexibility: we are keen to help you enhance your tour experience by offering you the chance to visit somewhere that you’ve always wanted to see (either just before, during or after your tour with us). And bear in mind the possibility to do this in the context of being dropped off somewhere interesting for the next leg of your vacation (or business trip). Starting the tour in one place and finishing in another is something we do often for clients.

A day in the county of Kent (+ night in Canterbury)
Before a battlefield tour

Take the high-speed train down from London to Canterbury (60 minutes) and we’ll give you a personally guided tour of the city, time free for the Cathedral, then out to a country pub for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the White Cliffs of Dover and Dover Castle, before dropping you off around 6 p.m. to enjoy your evening in Canterbury (and B&B or hotel accommodation).

A short stay in Bruges, Belgium
Before or after an Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) or World War I tour

Enjoy a personally-guided day in this beautifully preserved city with its many canals, medieval houses, fine squares and museums, with a night’s hotel accommodation in the heart of the city.

Getting to/from Bruges before/after our tour:
50 minutes by train from Brussels - or, if coming by Eurostar from London, take the train to Lille (Northern France; just 1 hour 25 minutes from London St Pancras) and we’ll meet you there and drive you the 45 minutes to the city. (Because Bruges is in western Belgium, this is quicker than staying on the train an extra 40 minutes to Brussels and then getting the connecting train).

A short stay in Ghent, Belgium
Before or after an Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) or World War I tour

If you’ve already done Bruges on a previous trip, then consider nearby Ghent - a ‘variation on a theme’ (arrival details just as per Bruges above - Ghent is the same distance from Lille); night in central hotel.

A short stay in Paris
Before or after a Normandy tour

If you’ve never been to Paris before, or would just like someone to show you around, then we’ll meet you there - or take you there for an extra night at the end or in the middle of your trip - and give you a walking/Metro/car tour that takes in the big sights, tells you the history, and lets you relax too. Night in central hotel.

Reims and the Champagne country
Before or after a World War I tour

Reims combines the charms of a classic French city with the delightful countryside of the champagne fields roundabout. Enjoy a personally-guided tour of the city, the Cathedral (13th century; stained glass) and the May 1945 Surrender Room (where the Nazis surrendered to Eisenhower) - with an afternoon drive through the champagne fields and a cellar tour. Night in central hotel.

Loire Valley chateaux
2-night add-on after a Normandy tour

You need 2 nights extra for this more ambitious Add-On - the Loire chateau are a 3-hour drive south from the D-Day area of Normandy, and are themselves spread out over some 100 miles east-west. Our 2 nights (in two different hotels) would allow us to take in four of the major sights: Chenonceaux (right), Blois, Villandry, and Chambord. In addition you would enjoy the beautiful scenery, small towns, and riverside drives. Drop-off in Paris - 2 hours away.

Mont St Michel
During or after a Normandy tour

Enjoy a personally-guided tour of this medieval gem (right) - church, abbey and village set atop a small island out in the bay. You can do this as a day trip from the D-Day area (1 hour 15 minute drive each way; adds an extra night to your Normandy tour) - or as an overnight visit, staying in one of the few hotels on the island: a treat. 4 hours back to Paris (or Calais, en route back to the UK) the next day.

Rhine crossings & the Bridge at Remagen
After a Market-Garden or Battle of the Bulge tour

A 24-hour extension to our Market-Garden tour would allow a visit to Montgomery's March 1945 crossing points on the Rhine, either side of Wesel.

A 24-hour extension to our Battle of the Bulge tour would allow a visit to the famous bridge at Remagen, which U.S. 9th Armoured Division snatched on 7th March 1945 - the first place that the Allies crossed the Rhine. Additionally it would be possible to follow the routes of British, Canadian or U.S. units in February and March 1945 in the hard struggle across the part of Germany west of the Rhine (Reichwald Forest; Eiffel; Mosel Valley; Trier).
